Burcu Yeşilbaş

Burcu Yeşilbaş Born in Yalova in 1985, Burcu Yeşilbaş is a filmmaker, editor, and musician currently based in Istanbul. After moving to the metropolis following her primary education, she graduated from Marmara University’s Faculty of Communication with a degree in Cinema and Television. During her university years, she laid the groundwork for her cinematic practice by interning on various film projects led by her professors. In her graduation year, Yeşilbaş directed her debut documentary, Keyvan (2014), which captured the vivid stories of women dairy farmers in Tonya, Trabzon—her ancestral homeland. The film was screened at the International Labor Film Festival. She subsequently worked alongside director Nejla Demirci as the assistant director and second camera operator on Yüzleşme (Confrontation, 2018), a poignant documentary on breast cancer that won First Prize at the prestigious TRT Documentary Awards. She also directed a specially commissioned documentary for Kadıköy Municipality, celebrating the 50th artistic anniversary of the renowned poet Ataol Behramoğlu. Alongside her dedicated independent documentary work, Yeşilbaş has built an extensive career in the film and television industry, directing music videos and serving as an assistant director for numerous commercial television series and feature films. Currently expanding her career as a performing musician, she also works as a video editor in the Directorate of Corporate Communications at Kadıköy Municipality.
